February Update

I cannot believe this month is nearly over - WOW.

Ryland is about to turn 23 months old - which really means he's nearly 2!  That is nuts.  I miss my tiny baby so much these days and Brent admitted this morning he does too.  Everyone keeps telling me that means it's time for another - but we are just not ready for that.  Besides, we love giving our little guy all the attention and love we have, and that's enough for us now.

He amazes us everyday at the things he knows and how much he has started talking.  Last night he took the iPad out of my hands and said "No, Mama.  Read a book" ("no, mama...Wee a boo.")

He's my little chatterbox - always telling me something.

We got a fish last week.  Ry's current favorite movie that he watched over and over while we were in Louisiana is Finding Nemo.  I think that inspired the name he gave his fish: "Momo"

He checks on Momo several times a day.  He always tells him 'night night' before bedtime.  His favorite thing to do is feed Momo, and I've had to hide the fish food because of it.

He's always asking me to turn on music to he can dance, he loves to watch football and basketball on tv with daddy, he is so stinking social it is SCARY.  I mean, he will walk up to absolutelt anyone and give them a hug.   No stranger anxiety from this guy.

He knows nearly every animal sound and my favorite is when he makes a rooster noise.  I posted a video of it so you can see.  It's way too cute.
*edit: WAIT!  this is not the right video.  But I don't have time to find it now.  This one is funny too - he gets sad when I ask him to say night-night and binky, because clearly it is not bedtime yet.  For his rooster sound, imagine his cute little voice saying "dock-a-dock-a-dock-dock-a-DOO!:

He's our little comedian.  He has started dressing up funny and running to me yelling "cheese!"  He knows I love to take his picture and he likes to look at the camera to see how funny he looks.

I found this picture of us from Valentine's day when we were 19.  So funny!  Brent took me out to a fancy restaurant that night, and we ordered the cheapest thing on the menu.  This year, we rented a movie and the PlayStation broke halfway through playing it.  So we spent the rest of the evening troubleshooting it.
But really, we went on two dates that week - so we counted that as our celebration.
We made this glasses at a friend's glassblowing studio. Brent's is the striped one and mine is the spotted.

Ryland is really into art lately, which I LOVE!  He has gone through 2 whole coloring books (that's 900 pages) since Christmas.  His favorite medium is stickers.

My fundraising is going well though - thank you to all who have donated!  My marathon training has turned to half marathon training.  I had a hard time coming back after my off and on training during January - due to vacations, weather, and the trip to Louisiana.  And now, I have a crazy intense outer ear infection and I can barely turn my head, let alone stand the jostling of running.  It is the most the most painful experience of my life.  I would post a picture of my face, but I don't even like to post pictures of me on a good day.  Just picture me with the right side of my face completely swollen.  I'm on day 5 and really hoping this thing turns around TODAY.  I could use some sleep, and a meal I can chew.  Brent is taking good care of me.

Louisiana visit in photos

Several posts with photos of who we saw and what we did in Louisiana.

Ryland's favorite things about Louisiana:
*fried fish
*cows everywhere
*KING CAKE for Mardi Gras (me too!)
*lots of cousins to play with
*so much to do and see outdoors.  Every morning he grabbed his shoes, pointed out my grandpa's back door and said "walk?"

An update on my grandma - she had surgery to place filters to prevent some of the blood clots that have formed from breaking loose.  She is still sedated.  Today, she will have a tracheotomy so they can remove the ventilator.  She breathes on her own, but because of the pain from all the broken ribs, she needs a little extra help getting a nice deep breathe.

All in all, things are moving in the right direction.  But they are moving very very slowly...

Roberts Family Cemetery

We stopped by the family cemetery to see my Papaw Clyde's grave (my mom's dad).  He passed away when I was about Ryland's age.

Ryland liked to pose with the headstones.

So many old graves and family history in this cemetery.  I had no idea I had so many great uncles that were Confederate officers.

Dykes family reunion

While most of this trip was devoted to my dad's side of the family (because of my grandma's accident) - my mom's side of the family got most of the family together for a big fish fry dinner one evening.  It was so much fun!
 Ryland meets Mawmaw Nell
He gave her lots of cuddles
 He liked Papaw's "Car"
 More hugs for Mawmaw

he checked out the horses from a distance (a little unsure of them close up)

 My cousin Julie meets Ry

Ryland immediately took to my uncle Walter - calling him "Ho Ho HO!" all night

 Ry loved the food

and we celebrated Josh's 4th birthday!

My uncle Mark entertained little man with cars for awhile

My uncle Walter, Aunt Kathy, cousins Jordan and Tracy and her family

Mawmaw Nell with what we had of my mom's family - just me, Ry, and my dad.
Mawmaw, Julie, aunt Betty, Pierce, and Reagan.

Mawmaw Nell, Papaw Rodney, and Trey

Ry's favorite person was probably Pierce - you can see why!

Gill Cousin Reunion

On my dad's side of the family, I have 5 cousins.  All of them girls.  3 of them recently had babies that I hadn't met yet.  We all got together Friday night at my cousin Robyn's house near Baton Rouge while Ryland and I were still in the area.

We didn't get us in the pictures at all - oh well, next time!

 Ryland loves King Cake!
For some reason Blogger won't let me post the cropped version of this pic (sans Robyn's camera) - but still cute.  These two love each other!

The ICU waiting room

We were at the hospital for about 2 hours each day, Ryland loved it when our cousins Andi and Grady came to play with him

Mamaw and PaRay's house

I think I spent the majority of my first five years of life at my grandparent's house.  For a lot of that time, we lived in a trailer on their property.  I would also call them from my mom's store daily, telling them to pick me up because I was bored.  I was excited to show Ryland my old stomping grounds.
I love the beautiful flowering trees in their yard.  Sadly, the Magnolias weren't blooming when we were there.

our old swing set is still standing

These trees were all planted a few years ago - one day they'll sell them for lumber

My grandpa used to make us puzzles in this barn
The cows next door are always so friendly

 the antique water pump

My mamaw has lots of teddy bears - Ryland made friends with them immediately

 Daisy

This is the porch we swing on in the summers, while PaRay sings "You get a line, I'll get a pole.." or "You are my Sunshine"

My dad showing where our trailer used to sit

PaRay reads a great bedtime story

My parents planted these trees when I was born - Hurricane Katrina took a couple of them, but there's still 6 left.
